1. Avoid buying clothes on sale
A successful fashionista hardly ever gets access to the best of fashion looking through the sale section or discount stocks of any fashion brand. You don’t necessarily only have to choose a designer label for your portfolio, but it is always advisable to shop clothes for your shoot only from the new arrivals/fresh collection section to ensure the best result.
2. Use filters only when necessary
Most aspiring fashionistas don’t understand the perfect mix of filters that compliments their picture best and end up publishing overtly edited pictures that rob the picture of its beauty. Filters should be used in moderation and one should take care to stay away from colour filters as it rarely serves any purpose for portfolios.
3. Sharpen your makeup skills
Youtube and Instagram are the ultimate hubs of makeup professionals who can help you bring your A game in front of an SLR camera. Although the main focus of the camera should always be on your clothes and accessories, smokey eyes and a nice lip shade is like a cherry on top.
4. Don’t always depend on luxury brands
You will be stuck in a corner if you always swear by your favourite brands as they will normally almost always steal the show and not serve the desired purpose- to show you as a whole in the limelight. Promoting lesser known brands is not a bad idea and eminent fashionistas promoting clothes/travel destinations/food always choose not to showcase a luxury brand in their picture and it always works in their favour.
5. Kill with confidence, fail with attitude
Nothing! And i repeat-Nothing! is sexier than confidence. It is completely different from attitude though and is often mistaken. Confidence is one’s own knowledge of one’s sexiness and the ability to carry off her style in a manner no one else can pull off. Don’t make the face that transforms you into a Mean Girl’s character, it puts people off and gives off a negative vibe you definitely don’t want to share with people who look up to you.
6. Size doesn’t matter
Remember-Curvy is sexy and humans exist in all shapes and sizes so NEVER think you can’t slay in the largest size. Confidence is the key and to get the perfect result, practise taking selfies with your camera to understand which pose makes you look your best. Everyone has a signature pose, find yours and you will never cringe at your pictures ever again.
7. Find the perfect fit
You may want to be on the best terms with your tailor for this one. Fashionistas often end up doing epic fails by posing in clothes that are either too tight or too loose. If your favourite dress is not available in your favourite size, you might want to look elsewhere or have a tailor stitch it according to your size, you can also try to enlarge clothes by stitching similar fabric on the sides which will escape the focus of the camera.
8. Only manicured hands
Don’t be caught holding that beautiful clutch with chipped nails and skin peeling off around your nails. Make sure you get a basic manicure so that it draws attention on the beautiful rings that adorn your fingers.
9. Be nice, be accessible
Being pricey hardly helps unless you have already reached the top. Your primary focus should be that maximum people fall in love with your style and vibe and to make that happen, you need to network frequently with all kinds of people. Keep checking your direct message list and mention your mail address on all social media platforms so that you don’t let any opportunity slip by.
10. Empower and be empowered
One hardly ever reaches the top all alone. Reach out to people- connect, network, make friends with aspiring fashionistas as share your experiences and you will be surprised with the wealth of information they will share. Collaborate with successful fashionistas to reach the desired audience and stay up to date with all the upcoming trends.
Follow these steps closely and you are good to go! Leave a comment if you want to add to this list 🙂
I don’t think fashionable people need to avoid sales, nor are there really any rules to ensuring you gain attention for your style. It’s about having the ability to put together attractive outfits that compliment your body, and more importantly, it’s about being able to take clothes from anywhere, expensive or not, and create something that someone else feels they can create for themselves.
