This was designed primarily for pilgrims and tourists to partake the holy drink and alcoholics are discouraged from dishonoring the primary purpose of the fountain. Ortana has religious significance as it houses the remains of Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus.
The fountain is a part of the pilgrimage route and is a joint effort of the vineyard and a non-profit organization which aims to uphold the religious importance of the route
